Hey There, I'm Tina!
And I know exactly what it's like to struggle through parenting.
It wasn't too long ago when I was convinced that my relationship with my daughter was doomed. Our days began and ended with epic power struggles, short-tempers, yelling, and door slamming. I was ashamed that as a grown adult, I was unable to maintain control over my emotions when dealing with a child.
Night after night, I cried myself to sleep knowing there was a better way - knowing that if I didn't figure out how to show up differently as a parent, that I was destroying my relationship with my daughter. After one particularly horrible morning, my daughter decided she had enough. At three years old, she demanded better from me.
It was then that I decided to change the way I approached my parenting. I read all of the parenting books, listened to parenting podcasts, started therapy, and journaled about my experiences. Somewhere along the way, I discovered that my own childhood messages were standing in the way of my connection with my daughter.
I started The Burnt Bean as a quest to help other parents like me: parents who love their children deeply, but continue to find themselves frustrated, irked, even triggered by those same children. Parents who know they can do better, but just can’t seem to figure it out.
